WBET's Constitution


CONSTITUTION

Article I - Name

The organization shall be called the Western Broome-Eastern Tioga Branch of the New York State Retired Teachers Association (N.Y.S.R.T.A.) and is part of the Southern Zone.

Article II - Purpose

The purpose of the organization shall be:
1. To promote fellowship among the members.
2. To promote, in conjunction with the zone and the state association, the economic, social, and professional status of retired teachers.

Article III - Membership

1. Any retired teacher or former  teacher may become a member upon payment of dues.
2. The spouse of any member, by payment of annual dues, shall be entitled to all privileges membership except the right to vote or hold office.
3. A member becomes an honorary member and pays no dues when he or she becomes 85 years old.

Article IV - Responsibilities

All members are expected to take an active interest in the organization and to perform such duties as may be assigned to them.

Article V - Officers  

1. The officers of the organization shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
2. They shall be elected annually and hold office until their successors are duly installed.  Such installation shall be the last business meeting of the year.
3. No elected officer other than the treasurer and secretary shall serve in the same office for a period longer than two consecutive terms.  (Amended 10/14/96)

Article VI - Amendments

The constitution may be amended at any regular meeting by a two-third vote of the members present.
